A moderate earthquake has struck the remote reaches of the western Aleutian Islands, rattling one of the most isolated maritime corridors in North America.

The seismic event occurred in the turbulent waters of the North Pacific, far from major population centers but within a highly active tectonic zone.

The event, registered at magnitude 5.1, occurred at 13:06:39 UTC on June 13, 2026.

The epicenter was located approximately 228 kilometers east-southeast of Attu Station, a historic and largely uninhabited outpost shrouded in persistent subpolar fog.

Heavy seas and gale-force winds swept across the Bering Sea as the seafloor shifted miles below the ocean surface.

This earthquake occurred along the Aleutian Trench, a massive subduction zone where the Pacific Plate thrusts beneath the North American Plate.
